‘Twas the Night Before Opening Day ‘16

Hoodwink’d                   by cj hood
‘Twas the Night Before Opening Day ‘16

FANS ARE SCARED BRO!

‘Twas the night before Opening Day, when all through the park
Not a creature was stirring, not even a lark;
The bats were all hung by the helmets with care,
In hopes that the Phillies soon would be there;
The fans were nestled all snug in their beds,
While visions of a parade danced in their heads;
Mom in her Ruf jersey, and I in my cap,
Had just settled down for a long Spring nap,
When out on the field there arose such a clatter,
I sprang from my bed to see what was the matter.
Away to Citizen’s Bank I flew like a flash,
Tore up 476 and almost near crashed.
Phillies Bunts staff was blogging like there was no tomorrow
We got rid of that jobber; Ruben Amaro
When, my wondering eyes saw the mound and the bases
An all new offense, don’t know their names nor their faces
With a brand new coach, hair slicked back and neat.
I knew in a moment it must have been Pete.
More rapid than the Eagles his courses they came,
And he whistled, and shouted and, called them by name;
“Now, Nola! Now, Morton! They came with a twist!
Now Eickhoff and that guy that broke Franco’s wrist!”
From the dugout! To the top of the wall!
They dashed away! Dashed away! Dashed away all!
As dirt kicked up before the wild hurricanes fly,
When Altherr broke his wrist; phans collectively cried.
Ben Davis and Murph were calling the game
‘Boy we miss Harry’; Oh! What a shame,
As I drew in my head, and was turning around,
Nola was set and took to the mound.
He was dressed in a throwback, from his head to his foot,
And the strength of his arm could throw a shot put;
The Mets blew the Series; the ‘Gnats dug their own graves;
Marlins suck; at least we’re not the Braves.
Three up and three down as Chooch made the calls!
Two strike-outs, a pop-out, and only one ball!
Las Vegas is saying we’re gonna get killed
If their play doesn’t kill us, Chick-fil-A certainly will
We’ve got Andy McPhail and Matthew Klentak;
We traded our stars and got prospects back.
We might be the duds of the MLB,
We’ll contend once again, just wait and see
We’ll struggle at first, I’m not going to lie yo!
But at least we open with that team from Ohio
I’m excited about Franco, Herrera and Nola
Philly’s best team? Wildcats at Villanova
If we played in October it would be such a shocker,
Maybe if Howard cleaned out his locker
But tonight we’re in first, like the rest of the teams
And all we can do is have positive dreams
Can’t wait til tomorrow; dress warm cuz it’s freezing,
“Good Luck Philadelphia, and to the fans a great season,”

A Formal Affair

Hoodwink’d  by cj hood
A Formal Affair Part I

What up kids?  BREAKING NEWS:  Our team blows!  But I’m not one to yell, curse and kick the dog over this pathetic excuse for a ball club.  Instead, I light a candle, put on some slow muzac and put my anger onto the pages of my marble notepad.  Like Chuck D of Public Enemy once crooned, ‘When I get mad, I put it down on a pad…give you something that you never had.’  So based on that shiz, I’ve decided to class this blog up and share with you some of the tasteful pieces I’ve penned while watching this atrocity.  I’m a start it off with a funky-ass haiku…

I don’t know this team
Who the hell is Reid Brignac?
Sounds like a porn name

----------------------------

Ode to Chase:
Without Chase
we’d have no wins.
No heart on the team.
No team.
No heart.

----------------------------

There once was a man named Amaro,
who lived for today, not tomorrow.
He mortgaged the farm,
gave out contracts that harmed,
And now the city just sulks in its sorrow.

THIS IS HOW I LOOK WHEN I WRITE POETRY

Pop up, pop up, pop
Ben Revere can’t bunt for shit
Take a lead off third

----------------------------

B is for the Balls every first batter gets
A is for your Ass that children try to pet
S is for the Strikes I think you had a few
T is for the Times you threw at batters shoes
A is also for your Ass cuz it’s big as hell
R is for the Runs you produce like Taco Bell
D is for Down Lehigh Valley that you have to go
O is for On as in ‘get back on the drugs bro’

I’ll be performing at Philly’s Phunniest Contest at Helium ( 2031 Sansom St., Philly) on Sun; June 22nd @ 10pm.  Round 1 winners are determined by the audience so I need your support.  I have a few free tickets left…get at me thru Facebook.  Otherwise, tickets are 2 for the price of 1 (tickets are $10).  Please call the box office at 215-496-9001 to make a reservation.  Make sure you mention my name (cj hood) to receive the discount.  I’m funnier than the Phillies defense…let’s get ‘bunted!

View from the Left Coast by a Lefty - Iambic Pentameter

Iambic pentameter is a commonly used metrical line in traditional verse and verse drama. The term describes the particular rhythm that the words establish in that line. That rhythm is measured in small groups of syllables; these small groups of syllables are called “feet". The word "iambic" describes the type of foot that is used (in English, an unstressed syllable followed by a stressed syllable). The word "pentameter" indicates that a line has five of these "feet."

These terms originally applied to the quantitative meter of classical poetry. But for our purposes, fuck poetry. I want to relate it to more like 50 feet and belong to our boys in red pinstripes. Ever since HP3 arrived our "feet" have been circling the bases on a greater level, due in no small part to him and his speed and energy. Tack on his hitting and slugging and voila' it's rubbed off on the entire team down to the bullpen. Seriously, when is the last time any of you remember an adrenaline rush like the one flowing from the dugout now? Result: 9 inna row bitches and a complete game after the beatdown and scrum! LOL!

But more on the "feet"... once again we lead MLB in stolen base percentage. Now, we don't have to lead in steals because we have the best balanced lineup in all of baseball as well. I don't even mind that Perlozzo doesn't hold a stopwatch on the field anymore. Davey Lopes has taught the entire organization the importance of the SB. While I miss him down there and wish we had kept him, at least his philosophy hasn't missed a beat. Once again, I mention HP3 because his presence has brought energy and speed to the entire team. Of all of the last 3 7/29 acquisitions, I consider Pence the best overall and the best fit. We now are playing and acting like the 08 series team. I cannot tell you how important that feels to me being 2500 miles away and still being able to FEEL it daily.

I don't wish predict anything yet, but goddamnit we now have an offense that approaches the BAM offense of 08. Meaning... in any given inning, with any given player, and with any amount of outs, nobody can count out the Phils. Ever. *THAT* is what gave us the edge back then from SB to BAM to 8 run rallys to ring ceremony and parade. And now we have new "feet" to keep us Flyin around the basepaths when the ball isn't flyin outta the park. I feel it out here, I hope to shit you all feel it back there. Fuck it, let's go eat!

Bill S is one of Phillies Bunts favorite "Spot Starters"! You too can write for the Bunts just hit up the Wriz @ jaywrizight@yahoo.com!

Also could HP3 arm candy be the reason behind the pep in the Dugout's step?
